Rules of the Frisco Rowing Center at Lake Dillon

As a current member of Frisco Rowing Center, (one who has paid this year’s membership fees, completed an application, and signed waiver forms), you are entitled to use FRC facilities and equipment.

Everyone who rows a club boat, without a coaching launch nearby, must pass the Captains Test. You must pass the test in the boat you intend to row. Beginners: You may practice in the bay area to the end of the moored boats before taking the Captains Test. An experienced rower who joins, can get a Captains Test waiver under the discretion of a coach and observation of their rowing skills.

The flip test is separate from the Captain's test. It is not mandatory, but highly recommended. We will be conducting these tests from time to time during the season. Those who have not passed the Flip Test are highly advised to stay close to shore within a distance you can comfortable swim the boat to shallow water. Rowing privileges may be revoked by the Board of Directors, for failure to comply with club rules.

Log book: FRC maintains a monitored logbook to keep track of members on the lake, to convey lake conditions to fellow rowers, and to note problems with boats.  All rowers, including private boat owners, must log out each time they row and log in when they return. Include comments on equipment, weather conditions or other matters as needed.

Boat reservation sheet: you can reserve a club boat 3 times/ week up to 2 weeks in advance; know how to check the sheet to see if anyone else has a boat reserved. If you cannot make your reserved date and time, please call one of the coaches. A list of names and numbers will be posted at the Center for you to program into your cell phone.

Shell Selection:  FRC makes a variety of single shells and multiple seat shells available to members.  Some are appropriate for beginners: Cambridge and Echo; intermediate: Maas 24 and Ace, advanced: Peinerts.  Row only the classes of shells that are suitable for your ability level.  Beginners wanting practice in an upper level boat must consult a coach.
Always return your boat and oars to the same rack you removed them from.

Before Rowing close the hatch, and drain, examine shell for damage or unsafe conditions (such as missing drain plug, hatch, or seat, loose rigger, oarlock, or foot stretcher). Fix any problems before rowing or tag and, log problems, and choose another shell.

Personal Flotation Devices (PFD):  For safety, wear a personal flotation device or have one on board each time you row and know how to use it. You boat is the best flotation device.

Cart There are carts available to use to transport to the dock,  especially the larger boats. Please return the cart to the location you found it by the picnic table. If you are the last one to use it, please lock it up.

Traffic Pattern  Follow the prescribed traffic pattern on the map. In general row out on the right side of the lake and row counterclockwise around bays.

Buddy up for safety.  All rowers are encouraged to row in pairs or groups

After Your Row, place boat on slings, wipe down all equipment taken on the water. (inside, outside, caring especially for oarlocks and seat tracks) and oars. Return the boat to its designated rack—the one with the same label and strap it down. Close the oarlock gates, open the hatch. Return the oars. Remember to tag unsafe equipment. Tags are in the folder in the podium.

Youth rowers:   Youth members (under age 18) may use FRC boats and equipment only when under the direct supervision of a coach during rowing sessions designated specifically for youth.  Rowers under 18 who want to use their own boats and equipment without the level of supervision described here may do so if their parents or legal guardians agree to it in writing and absolve FRC of all liability

Damage to boats: If damage (besides normal wear and tear) occurs to any FRC boat, each rower using the boat at the time the damage occurs shall be responsible to FRC for the lesser of $100 or the actual cost of repair. This responsibility applies during any use (including but not limited to) use on the water, transport to or from the water, or transport to an event.

Transporting boats: Any member wanting to transport an FRC boat to a regatta or other rowing location must obtain prior permission from the board.

Launch use:  Only members designated by the board may operate FRC coaching launches and only for official activities

Weather: Lightning: DO NOT row during storms involving lightning. If you can see lightning, even at what seems to be quite a distance, DO NOT LAUNCH. If you spot lightning while on the water, HEAD BACK TO the marina IMMEDIATELY. If it starts to storm before you get back, pull into the nearest shore and wait it out. Wind, more than 5 mph, take out a more stable boat or don’t row that day. White caps, forget it.

Sun is almost always stronger than you think.  Protect yourself with sunscreen. Wear a hat or visor. Take a bottle of water with you.

FRC members who do not follow rules and policies risk having their rowing privileges suspended or revoked.
